Are you looking to hang out with a few friends on Halloween night and watch a great horror flick? Every day in October, I’ll be suggesting a film that I believe will make for excellent Halloween viewing. Whether you’re an avid celebrator or a casual observer of the holiday, these films will convey the proper mood and spirit of October. In no particular order, here’s the next entry in my list of 31 excellent movies for Halloween Night—or whenever you’re looking for a frightfully good time.
My recommendation for October 28th is… Slither.
Official Synopsis: A small town is taken over by an alien plague, turning residents into zombies and all forms of mutant monsters.
Brenda: “Something’s wrong with me!”
Those who know this film will agree: Slither never got he respect or acclaim it deserves as one of the best gross-out Horror Comedies ever made. Some people were turned off by the cover art; there were complaints that it looked like a Night of the Creeps rip-off and perhaps a general aversion to a movie about mutant slugs. But the slugs are just one aspect of a much larger alien invasion, essentially little drones doing the work of a much more substantial creature—one that must be seen to be believed. Michael Rooker is a comedy genius as small town big-wig Grant Grant, who is unlucky enough to make “first contact” with something otherworldly. Make no mistake, Slither is big budget Horror: The FX are incredible, as are the overall production and the caliber of both the actors and the script. If you like big laughs and nasty gags, Slither is perfect Halloween viewing!
