October Countdown: 31 Fantastic Films to Make Your Halloween Scream, # 12

Evil_Dead1Are you looking to hang out with a few friends on Halloween night and watch a great horror flick? Every day in October, I’ll be suggesting a film that I believe will make for excellent Halloween viewing. Whether you’re an avid celebrator or a casual observer of the holiday, these films will convey the proper mood and spirit of October. In no particular order (and by no means a complete list), here are 31 excellent movies for Halloween Night—or whenever you’re looking for a frightfully good time. Enjoy!

My recommendation for October 12th is… Evil Dead.

Official Synopsis: Five friends head to a remote cabin, where the discovery of a Book of the Dead leads them to unwittingly summon up demons living in the nearby woods. The evil presence possesses them until only one is left to fight for survival.

After the horrendous recent reboots of A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Thing, and Fright Night, I was ready to disavow anything to do with remakes.  When I heard that Evil Dead was being rebooted in 2013, I was all set to hate it.  I was further incensed to find out that the lead, the Ash-figure, would be female.  Then there was the Diablo Cody connection and rumors of a drug-addiction subplot.  I went to see it expecting to rip it to shreds in my next blog but—I was shocked.  Truth is, I loved it—I just fucking loved it!  Brilliant acting and even better practical FX, Evil Dead will make you squirm like few films can.  The bodily mutilations are gag-inducing and the demon FX’s amaze.  The final show-down nothing short of epic.  Truth is, any Evil Dead film would be a great Halloween night watch, but there is something about the 2013 reboot that is simply gripping.  Absolutely not to be missed.

Stick around until the end of the credits for an awesome stinger sure to please horror Aficionados.
