Are you looking to hang out with a few friends on Halloween night and watch a great horror flick? Every day in October, I’ll be suggesting a film that I believe will make for excellent Halloween viewing. Whether you’re an avid celebrator or a casual observer of the holiday, these films will convey the proper mood and spirit of October. In no particular order (and by no means a completely representative), here’s the next entry in my list of 31 excellent movies for Halloween Night—or whenever you’re looking for a frightfully good time.
My recommendation for October 10th is… Drag Me To Hell.
Official Synopsis: A loan officer who evicts an old woman from her home finds herself the recipient of a supernatural curse. Desperate, she turns to a seer to try and save her soul, while evil forces work to push her to a breaking point.
After producing The Gift, Sam Raimis took a nine year hiatus from Horror to concentrate on some web-slinging superhero, or something. But the master who launched The Evil Dead franchise returned with a vengeance when he released Drag Me To Hell in 2009. This movie has everything you want in a great Halloween movie: Fright, laughter, and gag-inducing gory FX. Drag Me To Hell is, essestially, a Morality Tale, one that warns against putting career aspirations ahead of compassionate humanity. Folks may argue the point, but I still say the main character had it coming!
