Whether you look forward to it all month long or not, Halloween is a pervasive sub-plot for the entire month of October.  It’s around this time that friends and colleagues begin asking for recommendations for Halloween Viewing.  Since there are so many great possibilities, I decided to release a suggestion a day all month long!  In no particular order, the films on this list are, in my opinions, good for a festive group watch.  Of course I’d love to hear your feedback.

My recommendation for Wednesday October 1 is… American Mary.

With their sophomore directorial release in 2013, “Twisted Twins” Jen and Sylvia Soska prove themselves a force to be reckoned with.  Without giving too much away, American Mary is awash in sex, drugs, and underground body modification.  Katharine Isabelle is fantastic as titular Mary Manson, a medical school drop out who finds a unique way to make ends meet.   Tristan Risk is impecable as the highly modified Beatress Johnson, a character who could be related to Audrey from Little Shop of Horrors.    Don’t let the predominately female cast trick you into thinking American Mary is watered-down “Chick Horror”; this film is way edgier than most mainstream Horror movies and carries a mighty wallop!

Check back tomorrow for #2 on my October Countdown!
